WINNIPEG– If running back Fred Reid has a say — and officially, he doesn’t – the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 1970s retro uniforms unveiled today would become a permanent look.
“I feel good. I feel like I’m ready to play already,” said Reid at the official launch of the new uniforms. “These are really nice uniforms. Hopefully we can wear them again after this game because the players, we all really like them.”
The Bombers will wear the uniforms in Friday’s game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Canad Inns Stadium as part of the CFL’s retro theme. Teams have been wearing retro uniforms periodically over the last couple of seasons, honouring previous looks by decade
The Bomber jerseys from the 1970s feature the iconic ‘W’ on a gold helmet, gold pants and the royal/giant blue uniforms.
In the 1980s a ‘W’ was added to the sleeve of the jersey while the current look, featuring a navy blue and the new ‘W’ logo with a football and lightning bolt, introduced in 1994.
