Il vient de remporter la bourse Vanier pour ses recherches dans le domaine de l’aérospatiale. Ce prix prestigieux récompense chaque année une centaine d’élèves à travers le Canada pour leurs recherches dans les domaines des sciences humaines, des sciences naturelles, du génie ou encore de la santé, mais aussi leur implication sociale.

André Marchildon : “Cette bourse est une chance, car ça me permet d’aller à plus de conférences et de pouvoir présenter ma recherche à beaucoup plus de monde, comme c’est le cas avec cette conférence au Texas.” Il porte ainsi les couleurs de sa communauté au-delà des frontières du Manitoba.

Actuellement en maîtrise, l’étudiant cherche à rendre les algorithmes utilisés pour calculer le mouvement de l’air autour des avions plus efficaces.

The person or persons unknown made several accounts on Instagram — owned by Meta — and one on X, formerly known as Twitter, to falsely impersonate the professor in a “campaign of harassment and defamation,” the court filing argues.

The posters, while crudely pretending to be Flisfeder, made vulgar and often sexual comments, as well as comments about being a Zionist, and claimed that he “hit on” or was otherwise inappropriate with his students. The accounts used photos of him as the profile pictures.

The posts and hundreds of others like it are exposing younger people to prediction market platforms, where users can put money on the line for the outcomes of real-world events — or absurd ones like when the U.S. will confirm that aliens exist or whether Jesus Christ will return before 2027.

Once on the platforms, companies keep users hooked with what they market as low-stakes, casual opportunities to make an easy buck, creating an environment that some say feels more like a game and less like a risky financial transaction with potentially harmful consequences. Indeed, recent academic research looking at 588 million trades on Polymarket found that profits were concentrated to just a very small group of top traders while the majority of users — 69% — lost money.

Doctors believe social media, screen time and chat bots are among the top risks to children's health and well-being, ranking higher than even smoking, drinking, injuries and sedentary lifestyles," Dr. Alon Altman, president of Doctors Manitoba, told reporters on Monday.

Behind those numbers are young people who are eager to work but unable to gain a foothold in the labour market. Many employers continue to ask for experience even for entry-level positions, leaving students and recent grads trapped in a cycle where they cannot gain experience because nobody will hire them.
