Hey there, time traveller!

‘Looks like I’ll be staying around a little longer.”
Those words from place-kicker Justin Palardy came after the Winnipeg Blue Bombers released import kicker Louie Sakoda Wednesday morning. The move was hardly a shock considering Palardy has been excellent as an injury replacement for Sakoda, who went down with a calf injury prior to the game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Aug. 13. Palardy started the season as the Ticats punter and was brought in on an emergency basis (he won a brief kicking competition) following the Sakoda injury.
The 22-year-old from Nova Scotia has appeared in four games with the Blue and Gold, hitting 7-of-8 field goals, and says nothing changes for him now that the guy he was supposed to be filling in for is gone.
“I’m just going to get ready for Montreal,” he said.
The way Palardy took advantage of the opportunity the Bombers gave him was just one of the contributing factors in the club showing some faith in his leg moving forward. It doesn’t hurt his standing that he’s a Canadian, so that frees up a non-import spot on the roster somewhere else.
CARR READY: On the subject of career opportunities, there appears to be one in front of wideout Greg Carr.
The rookie has been biding his time on the practice roster the last few weeks, and looks like he could crack the lineup against the Alouettes Friday (7 p.m., Canad Inns Stadium). Slotback Chris Davis missed another practice Wednesday (due to the birth of his daughter), putting the club down an import receiver this week. Based on the configurations the Bombers have been using in practice, all signs point to Adarius Bowman — who has come under fire for his recent rash of dropped balls — in Davis’ inside spot, with Carr taking over for Bowman on the outside.
Should Davis return and convince the staff he’s ready to play, that’s when things get a little murky. Head coach Paul LaPolice was non-committal when it came to questions about Bowman’s starting status if Davis is available.
“I want to do what’s best for the team,” LaPolice said. “I’m interested in seeing (Carr)… but the biggest thing I’m interested in is beating Montreal.”
HEFNEY WATCH: The Detroit Lions released DB Jonathan Hefney from their practice roster Wednesday. The Bombers have contacted Hefney’s representatives.
