Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 24/09/2010 (5527 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
A QUICK CHAT WITH:
Bombers safety Ian Logan
BORN: Aug. 19, 1982 in Waterloo, Ont.
ALMA MATER: Wilfrid Laurier
COLLEGE CREDENTIALS: Named to the CIS First All-Canadian team in 2004-05.
CFL RESUMé: Signed as a free agent in 2006. Played 14 games in his rookie season. Made four starts at corner and had two interceptions in 2007. Won the starting safety spot after Week 7 in 2008. Only missed two games in 2009, finishing the year with 44 tackles and four interceptions.
YOU WENT TO WILFRID LAURIER. WHAT’S THE NAME OF THE MASCOT: I think it’s just Golden Hawk.
WHAT’S YOUR NICKNAME: Logie-trice. It comes from that rapper, Obie Trice. I have no idea who first came up with that.
FAVOURITE TV SHOW: The Office.
ON THE IPOD: Just downloaded some new stuff. Dead Mouse, Magnetic Man, and Swedish House Mafia.
THOSE ARE A LITTLE OFF THE BOARD: I don’t listen to Kanye or any of that stuff.
CURRENT VEHICLE: Cadillac STS.
GAME DAY MEAL: Eggs, toast and bacon. Then a chicken sandwich later in the day.
FAVOURITE MOVIES: Gladiator, Inception, Jurassic Park.
HAVE YOU EVER WATCHED LOGAN’S RUN? No, but I’ve heard about it. I should see that.
TALENT YOU’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE: I’d like to have some talent to make music. I love it and I’m jealous of guys who can do that. I want to be able to create something.
MOST FAMOUS PERSON IN YOUR CELLPHONE: Oh man…I don’t really know anyone famous. I had Milt Stegall in there. Does he still count? (laughs)
HERO? My parents. Great supporters and I trust them more than anyone else in the world. I can just talk to them about anything and they’ll listen.
THREE PEOPLE, DEAD OR ALIVE, TO ROUND OUT YOUR FOURSOME IN GOLF: This might sound like a cop-out, but I’ll say Brady Browne, Shawn Gallant, and Pierre-Luc Labbe.
FAVOURITE TEAM GROWING UP, ANY SPORT: Toronto Blue Jays.
FAVOURITE ATHLETE: Wayne Gretzky.
WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING RIGHT NOW IF YOU WEREN’T PLAYING FOOTBALL: I’d be a teacher. High school history and I would help coach football. I was going to do that right after (university) but I kept making the team the first two years.
BEST MOMENT AS A PRO: There are two. The first one is the big hit on (Riders running back) Wes Cates in ’08 Banjo Bowl. That’s a highlight for me. The second one is when we went to the Grey Cup in ’07.
BEST PERK ABOUT BEING A BOMBER IN WINNIPEG: Just getting to play a sport for a living in a city that really cares about the team.
BEST THING ABOUT THE CFL: It’s 100 per cent Canadian. Yeah, half the players are American, but it’s great to see guys rise up from Canadian colleges and play in the CFL. I love the nationalistic aspect to the league.
BACK TO BEING A TEACHER — HOW MUCH EDUCATION DO YOU HAVE TO GIVE AMERICANS ABOUT THE GAME: Quite a bit sometimes — but usually just in the first couple days. They know it’s football; they just struggle with the slight nuances once in a while.
FINALLY, DO YOU LIKE THE COLD? I miss southern Ontario right about now. It’s still warm there. I don’t like any winter sports. I don’t ski or snowboard or play hockey. I do not like the cold and it doesn’t like me. I can play in it…but I could do without it.
