Some men can’t handle her breast tattoos

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I have tattoos on my breasts, which I really like. My ex-boyfriend liked them too, but I have slept with two men since my relationship ended and they were surprised, and one of them not in a positive way. My tattoos don’t contain hearts with initials, or anything gross like that, they are pictures from nature.

How could this be a problem for any man? I thought it added to my mystique. Now I’m starting to feel self-conscious. Help!

— Tattoo Problem, Wolseley

Dear Tattoo Problem: There’s a big difference between, “Eww, what’s that?”,“Wow, that’s beautiful!” and an awkward silence when a couple are making out, and a tattoo suddenly comes into view. You shouldn’t have to feel apologetic about your body decor, so find a guy who has some himself, or just likes them, and talk about them before he gets to see them.

Many guys have tattoos now, and a man with some of his own would be a great choice for you. There are people who love them and find them intriguing, and others who actually feel repulsed. You don’t need any more of the latter response.

I gather your tattoos are hidden from public view. If you don’t jump into bed too early with a partner, you get a chance to talk about everything and find out what people’s feelings are about many personal things.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: A very good friend of mine is going through a divorce after 40 years of marriage because friends of his wife insist that he’s been cheating. He says he hasn’t, but she won’t believe him. She gave him a list of 24 women that he supposedly slept with, and he insists he hasn’t slept with any of them.

I actually contacted five of them and they all said they had never slept with him, and that the accusations are false. Why would her so-called friends try to talk her into a divorce with lies?

On the other hand, I have heard that some of her friends are lesbians and that maybe she is changing sides. I have no proof, but am wondering if I should mention it to him so he can throw this info back at her when she accuses him of cheating.

These people have been married so long and their true friends and family members are devastated. He does not want a divorce and is terrified about having to sell their house. What can I do to help? I read that the rate of divorce for the over-60 crowd is the fastest growing among all divorces.

Why is this happening?

Don’t Get It, Winnipeg

Dear Don’t Get It: People get fed up over the years and have financial options to leave. People who married young often married for reasons that didn’t keep them happy in the long term — reasons such as an unplanned pregnancy, good looks or because all their friends were all getting married at the same time.

They may have turned out to have different values, different interests, alcohol or drug addiction (sometimes prescription) and different attitudes to money. Maybe one person dominated the household, maybe one wanted to travel and the other didn’t. Multiply these annoyances by 30-plus years and people say, “I have enough money to live. I want out of this dead relationship before I get too old to do any of the things I want.”

That could include following a hidden sexual preference.

In your case, it’s interesting that you are so intimately involved. You’ve been calling people up to ask if they’ve ever cheated with your friend. Why in the world would they ever talk to you, and why would they admit to cheating, if they had?

Get your nose out of this. If this woman wants to leave your buddy for any reasons, she is free to do so. Clearly, she wants out.

A new chapter: Renamed Winnipeg Book Festival takes to The Forks this fall

Ben Sigurdson 5 minute read Yesterday at 4:22 PM CDT

Winnipeg’s long-running annual literary festival returns this fall, once again featuring a slate of authors, local and beyond, ready to engage with readers.

New this year is pretty much everything else, including a new name, executive director and team of staff — as well as a shift to a tight, condensed timeline and a move to hold all events under one roof.

The festival formerly known as Thin Air/Livres en fête is now the Winnipeg Book Festival; the event takes place Oct. 1-4 at The Forks Market, with most events offering free admission.

It’s a lot of changes for the stalwart literary festival, which was run for more than two decades by Charlene Diehl, who stepped away in late 2025.

With the next round of tariffs set to hit Canadian goods next week, and a new report suggesting Manitobans could be severely impacted if the Canada-U.S.-Mexico agreement on trade breaks down, Premier Wab Kinew pledged Wednesday to keep working with the U.S. ambassador — and keep American booze off Manitoba shelves, for now.

Libau man warns Manitobans after contracting West Nile Virus

Morgan Modjeski 3 minute read 4:55 PM CDT

A Manitoba man is warning others about the presence of West Nile virus in the region, as he’s concerned his case has not been announced by the province.

Todd Holmes was informed he had contracted West Nile virus on Friday, several days after he attempted to donate blood in Selkirk. Canadian Blood Services called to tell him his sample tested positive for the virus.

Holmes said he was contacted by the province about his diagnosis on Tuesday afternoon, yet a website that logs cases of West Nile in the province continues to read zero.

He decided to take matters into his own hands by posting about his plight on social media.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s suggestion that Mark Carney needs more “backbone” to negotiate with Donald Trump would be easier to take seriously if anyone had actually figured out how to negotiate with the U.S. president.
