DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I met two beautiful girls around 20, while I was at a beach sitting on a blanket. They were hot. I had a cooler stuffed with food and drinks and offered to share. I told them I had packed way too much. They said sure, and we started talking and soon moved our blankets right up together for lunch.

They were lots of fun, and we went in the water together and fooled around. At one point they whispered to each other, and then things changed. In the water, they began to tease me and at one point had my shorts off. They were pretty aggressive, in the best sort of way, and they both kissed me at different times. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.

I totally expected them to invite me back to their cabin, but they didn’t. At the end of the day, it clouded over. They thanked me for a wonderful time and they both kissed me on the cheek, picked up their stuff and left. Just like that. I could hear them giggling and talking on the way to their car. Why did they leave me high and dry? I don’t get it. I felt teased, and deserted.

Dear Their Boy Toy: Sometimes young women are just out to have a little fun, and that’s it. These beach bunnies were not looking for a full-out threesome, but they had fun and knew you had fun with them. They weren’t being mean by not inviting you back to their cottage for a big scene. They just wanted a small scene in the water.

Can’t you drop the disappointed attitude and just enjoy the memory of the fun you had in the water? If you see them again at the beach, be friendly, but don’t expect a repeat.

Put your energies into fishing for someone else. The sandwich and drink routine seems to work well as bait, so keep it up. If you reel in some company and sexy fun in the water or out, you’re getting way more than most guys do who arrive with a bag of chips at the beach.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I gave my cat away to a friend to babysit while I went to Europe. Now I’m back, and she told me on the phone that she and my cat have grown deeply attached and she wants to keep him.

She said it’s not fair to a cat to leave him for a month at a time, and it’s not fair to take him away from her now that she’s looked after him so long. She said she had to get him through his depression at the loss of his owner, but now he’s happy, settled and she loves him.

I am planning on taking back-to-back cruises in the fall and asking her to babysit again. I suggested we could share him when I travel, and she just sniffed and said that she would be heartbroken when I took him back.

Then she accused me of being an irresponsible pet owner. She pointed out she’s not a traveller and would be there for him 100 per cent. She struck a nerve and I felt guilty. I am newly retired at a young age and have plans to travel a lot, and would like to start going south for at least one month every winter.

She also knows that, but she still has a lot of nerve demanding to have him. What do you think?

Dear Upset and Confused: As much as she’s a nervy person for shaming you and trying to keep your cat, what is in the best interests of this animal? You are feeling guilty because you’re starting to recognize that maybe your new lifestyle with lots of travel doesn’t work well with a pet. You must ask yourself who you will get to look after this cat, trip after trip. It won’t be her. She’s already said she won’t be jerked around.

This person already loves him, wants him and she’s not a traveller. It sounds like an opportunity to give him a loving home with an owner who’s home all the time. Although it will make you feel sad for a time, it could be best to let the cat stay with her.
