Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: The quiet “vanilla” man I married has become a sexual mystery to me. He suddenly wants to try all these new positions, and even to role-play. This behaviour is like night and day from the man I married. We even purchased some sex toys last week.

I’m not really complaining, but who is this new man? At first, I thought he must be cheating on me, and learning new stuff from another woman. Then, I finally got into his computer history and he’s been surfing porn sites! I’m loving the much more sexual man he has become, but I’m kind of turned off by some of the sites he’s been looking at. Some are scary. What to do?

— Nice Guy or Beast? Norwood

Dear Nice Guy or Beast: Don’t fret! You loved his regular personality, and it’s still there. But now your conservative husband is turning out to have an adventurous side he wants to explore with you when you’re private and alone. Hurray!

He hasn’t been learning new moves from another woman. He must feel very secure with you, to share his new, wilder interests. It’s online schooling he’s getting — and there’s all kinds of it, but he won’t like all of it.

You should explore some sites yourself. That’ll stimulate discussions you need to have, so both of you are comfortable with the kinds of experiments you try. At home or in the car, when just talking and relaxing, that’s the time to talk about porn sites that turn you on or off, and why. You can talk about limits, and what you’re both willing to explore. This could be fun. Just don’t shame each other about different tastes. Instead, look for as many mutual interests, as you can find.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I have lived with two housemates since the beginning of the COVID. I’m the only woman. Early on in the pandemic one of the guys and I “mated up” for the duration of COVID. Our other roomie had a girlfriend. They just broke up, and he’s very sad.

The other guy and I are just sex buddies, so one night when our friend was moping around and feeling lonely, I said I was coming downstairs to check on Mr. Heartbreak, and found him crying quietly. I just took his hand and brought him up to bed with us. The first night we just all three slept together with me in the middle like three spoons. The next morning my usual bed mate left for work early, and said, “Enjoy yourselves!” on the way out. What an invitation. Now I make love with one or the other, and we often just sleep three in a bed, cuddling.

We never have a sexual threesome; it’s just a bed sharing. Is this weird? I have told only my best friend. Now she laughingly calls us “the Three Bares!” It’s nice in this seemingly endless pandemic to be so warm and cosy at night. But, what will happen in the end?

— Three Cosy Friends, River Heights

Dear Cosy Friends: Times have changed in the last year-and-a-half. People have needed affection and company, not necessarily needing the old rules. They worked fairly well — when there was plenty of opportunity to find new partners and lovers.

You three are coping with the long-term loneliness, and it’s working so far. The only thing that could mess it up is other people’s criticism, so why not button your lip and enjoy your unusual trio?

Don’t tell one more girlfriend, as this is juicy gossip and might be repeated. You might even make a pact with your two sleeping partners to keep it private.

And don’t worry yourself about what will happen in the end. It may just be a drifting off and a lingering fondness, unless two of you (and it could any two) start developing feelings.

Former Selkirk teacher convicted of sexual assault denies latest abuse claim

Erik Pindera 2 minute read 3:16 PM CDT

A former private school teacher convicted of sexual assault against several students has denied he abused the Manitoba man who’s now suing him over different claims of sexual violence.

Kenneth MacKinnon Mealey, a former teacher at St. John’s Cathedral Boys’ School in Selkirk, is named in a sexual abuse lawsuit filed in Manitoba’s Court of King’s Bench earlier this year by a man who was once a student at the school.

Mealey was convicted more than 20 years ago of sexually assaulting several boys at the Anglican private school.

The school in Selkirk — known for its harsh discipline and physically gruelling outdoor exercises — closed more than 30 years ago.

World-touring rock star comes home for street-naming

Memories of burning Wayne Gretzky rookie cards while biking up and down Bellavista Crescent came flooding back to Brent Fitz on Friday morning as the local rocker revisited his childhood neighbourhood for a street-naming ceremony in his honour.

Bellavista Crescent has been given the honorary name Brent Fitz Way to celebrate the prolific Winnipeg musician, who has played drums and keyboards alongside such rock legends as Slash, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons and Vince Neil.

“Having this location now officially geotagged, it’s incredible. But it’s geotagged attached to people and friends and family,” Fitz said to a crowd of supporters gathered at the corner of Bellavista and Voyageur Avenue.

The Toque and Streetheart member said growing up in the community is where he learned how to connect with people, which led him to form countless relationships that would change the course of his life.

Main Street restaurant Boujee burns for the second time in one week

Aaron Epp 2 minute read Yesterday at 3:15 PM CDT

A former restaurant on Main Street is set to be demolished after a fire broke out for the second time in less than a week.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire at Boujee Restaurant and Bar, a vacant, single-storey building on the 100 block of Main Street shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday. The same building was most recently damaged in a fire last Sunday.

At the scene, crews found heavy smoke coming from the building. After attacking the fire using aerial ladders that sprayed water from above, firefighters arranged an emergency demolition of the building. Demolition is expected to be completed today, the WFPS said in a news release.

No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.

Lac du Bonnet slowly healing from devastating fire

LAC DU BONNET — Fifteen months after devastating wildfires ripped through Lac du Bonnet, claiming two lives and destroying more than a dozen homes, residents are trying their best to build back better.

Along the winding gravel path that is Wendigo Road outside Lac du Bonnet, new timber peeks through patches of charred forest. Homes and cottages are beginning to take shape after fire raced through the neighbourhood at record speed and levelled at least 18 homes on the road.

Table saws and nail guns ring in the distance while Brian Curtis plots out where his new cottage will go. Curtis bought his previous cottage 19 years ago and had recently levelled the foundation.

He and his wife, Pam, had been thinking about long-term renovations when the May 13, 2025 fire swept away all their work and memories.

Bombers look to rally vs. Redblacks

Taylor Allen 5 minute read 6:46 PM CDT

Mike O’Shea is guilty of wearing rose-tinted glasses at times.

There have been situations where a certain player, or the team as a whole, has obviously struggled, and the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will downplay the questioning.

But not even O’Shea could take a glass-half-full approach to his team’s most recent performance.

The Bombers, who were on a bye last week, returned to work on Sunday at Fort Garry Lions Field for the first time since suffering an inexcusable 35-19 home loss to the B.C. Lions on July 30.
