Hey there, time traveller!

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I fell in love with a drummer and he likes to practice. In order to be at his house, I have to wear earplugs. There are many things I love about him, but I have started avoiding meeting at his house as much as possible and he has noticed. He asked me this morning in a sad voice if I didn’t love him anymore. I said, “I have deep feelings for you, but the drums are driving me crazy.” He said he didn’t know what he could do about that. I was wondering what other drummers do to keep their drums from driving women away? I do love this man so much.
— Stymied Drummer’s Lover, Winnipeg
Dear Stymied: You can’t ask a musician to give up his music for you. It means too much to him. You would have to leave before the drum kit. But he lives in a house — great! How about insulating the drum room? Musicians use all kinds of inexpensive stuff to soundproof a room. You could soundproof the basement or garage, although the garage would cost a lot of money to winterize and it sounds like it’s too early in the relationship to be making costly suggestions.
Research some soundproofing methods online, suggest some methods to him and tell him you will help him do it. That would be a loving thing to do and would protect your ears so you could live together one day, if you wanted to.
