Hey there, time traveller!

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I’m young and shy, but I have a beautiful girlfriend. Other guys are always flirting with her and trying to get her to ditch me. She says she sticks with me because I’m kind and sweet, and she trusts me. I think maybe it’s because I have a car and take her everywhere like a princess.
She flirts back with these guys, even though she knows it hurts me. How do I get her to stop? We are both in the same school and I have to watch it happening right in front of me. I know those guys are just laughing at me. — Surrounded by Crocodiles, Winnipeg
Dear Surrounded: Why do you think your girlfriend flirts right in front of you? Because she can. That can change. Start looking around yourself, and smiling and talking with a few girls. You may interest your girlfriend more if she experiences the sick feeling of jealousy. She may be willing to dial back on the flirting.
Since you say you don’t think she’s as crazy about you as you are about her, be prepared if she finally goes off with one of these guys. If you have developed a passing interest in another girl in the school, you could then ask her out and you wouldn’t feel so devastated and alone. Nice guys don’t have to be chumps.
