Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I ate so much over Christmas I visibly gained weight. I can’t get any of my good pants done up. My skinny wife is making unfunny jokes. Last night she called me Jelly Belly and said, “Looks like Santa’s here to stay.” Either I have to lose weight or accept the fact that new weight that comes on never stays off for any length of time. Dear 10 Fatter: There’s hope! Of course, you can’t keep eating like you were. But the Christmas pig-out usually ends of its own accord when the last of the holiday goodies has been scarfed down (or thrown in the bottom of the freezer, out of sight). Here is something that actually will work to get your pants done up — start exercising and weight-lifting. The waist is often the first place to respond when you start working out. For cardio, I heartily recommend sex and romantic walks. See if you can get your skinny wife out walking with you in the evenings after dinner. Walking and crisp, cool air invigorate the body — perhaps you can come home for some “sexercise” afterwards. What a fun way to get rid of your Christmas belly. Happy 2016!
