She’s good on the inside, but doesn’t like the outside

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I love snowmobiling, but unfortunately my new woman hates it. She doesn’t like my snowmobiling friends either. She is the best match intellectually for me that I have ever met, but everything falls apart when we go outside to do anything: skate, ski and snowmobile with my friends and their girlfriends. She whines and complains until we’re back indoors. I love the fresh air and the snow and the countryside. She’s a city girl through and through.

In the city, we do a lot together and have great talks and pretty good sex, too. Outdoors, she’s a cold, wet blanket. Should I break up with her now before I fall in love with her, or should I stay with her and go snowmobiling with a platonic female friend of mine? I want someone with me! It’s not fun to be alone when everybody else in the crowd is coupled up.

— Halfway Out the Door, Winnipeg

Dear Halfway Out: If snowmobiling is a passion and likely be a lifelong thing with the right woman, then say goodbye to this girlfriend right away and put the word out you’re looking for a new lady who likes snowmobiling. No doubt your friends don’t want to lose you either, and you don’t want to sell your snowmobile to stay inside all winter with this new woman.

Not every woman you really like will fit your lifestyle, and that’s a huge problem. Snowmobiling is a very happy part of your life and includes many of your friends. How much are you going to lose if you stay together? Lots!

Now let’s talk about “pretty good sex.” You can do better than that. Sex usually dies down as the relationship goes on, so you don’t want to start out with a woman at “pretty good sex, with a clash of important interests.” Lots of outdoor women are smart and the sex could be great with one of them. Good thing you didn’t meet City Girl any earlier and have a big relationship already built up before winter hit, then it would be a lot harder to blow off this relationship.
