Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I just started seeing a woman I really like. She took me home and I left gasping. She has three cats. I am allergic to them, but we hadn’t discussed it before then. It seems like she’s not a person who blabs on about her cats. Luckily, I had antihistamines with me, but I was all stuffed up, my eyes were running and couldn’t stay. I really like this woman. Should I ask her to get rid of her cats for me? I think we could really be great together, but not if I’m crying and sneezing.

Dear Allergic Guy: Don’t bother making that suggestion. Those three cats are her fur family. It would be a preposterous suggestion, especially right off the top. Your best bet would be to move on and find a similar lady with no animals, who doesn’t want any. Your new girlfriend has no idea how long you are going to last, but she knows her cats will love her and she will love them for their entire lives. (Cats can live 15 to 20 years if they are indoor pets.) Also, you need a place where you can breathe freely without popping pills all the time.
This just isn’t a match, so it’s better to let it go before there’s any emotional attachment.
