DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I was working in the basement, building a rec room, when my bride of four months came downstairs naked, lay across the couch and flipped on a porn DVD.

I looked over and found it vaguely interesting, but I was busy working and told her so. She came over to where I was busy hammering and said, all teary, “Look at me. I was shy to do this, but I wanted to please you as your wife. You have made a big mistake. This will never happen again.”

I let her throw her little fit and went back upstairs an hour later for a drink, thinking she would apologize for trying to interrupt my work. She has been civil to me since, but no more than that. We sleep in the same bed, because there is only one bedroom. What do you think?

— Busy Man, Fort Garry

Dear Busy: Every married man reading this column is hollering at the newspaper: “Apologize to her, you idiot! You don’t know what I’d give for my wife to do that!”

You crushed your wife when she went out of her comfort zone to create an exciting sex scene for you. You refused her and chastised her and continue to blame her.

If you don’t humbly apologize for hurting and rejecting your bride, she may move out on you before you have your basement room finished. This is 2019 and women don’t stick around with a man who appears to be a big marriage mistake, especially when there are no children to consider.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: My friends set me up on a blind date with a friend of theirs who had recently broken up with his wife. He called to ask me out for drinks and said he’d pick me up. I waited an hour. I called him and there was no answer.

I found out later from our mutual friends he was driving to my place when “his car turned itself in the direction of his ex-wife’s house.” He went there to try to get her back and said he felt good about that.

— Feel Like a Sucker, St. Vital

Dear Feel Like a Sucker: It’s not a total loss because you learned three important things. First, never go on a blind date with a guy who’s in the throes of a breakup. Second, this man has bad manners and no guts. He should have called to say he was standing you up and offered you a big apology. Third, you now know your friends stink at matchmaking and you will never trust them to do it again.

Obsessed stalker who shot, killed young woman at bus stop in 1993 dies behind bars at age 74

Erik Pindera 3 minute read Tuesday, Sep. 29, 2026

A Winnipeg man who stalked a woman for several years before shooting her dead in the street in 1993 has died in Stony Mountain prison.

On Monday, 74-year-old Ronald Edd Bell died of apparent natural causes at the federal prison just north of Winnipeg, the Correctional Service of Canada said.

Bell had been in prison since May 30, 1994, when he was given a life sentence with no chance of parole for 18 years for killing Terry-Lyn Babb, 25, on Jan. 21, 1993.

Bell walked up behind an unsuspecting Babb, who was waiting at a bus stop at Sherbrook Street and Wolseley Avenue, and shot her in the head with a pistol in front of horrified witnesses, says the Free Press report of his sentencing hearing.
