Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I awoke a few weeks ago to a totally different husband. He had been bitter, critical and tired of life for the past 10 years. All of a sudden, he was warm and funny and wanted to do things with me. He reminded me of the guy I married, the one who disappeared when the kids started going to school. I couldn’t figure out what had happened to restore him to being a happy, positive guy.
He hadn’t been having much luck in the sex department with me, but a month ago, suddenly he was young and virile and interested again. He didn’t care about his appearance 10 years into our marriage, and all of a sudden he went shopping and came home with a whole new wardrobe. Then he went and had blond streaks put into his hair and booked a fall cruise for us.
I have no idea what has happened to bring him back to life. There have been no big changes I could see in his life to cause this. I love the way he is again, but it is driving me crazy trying to figure out what did it! I don’t want to jinx it considering how great this is, but what could have done this, Miss L.? I bet he won’t tell me.

Dear Happy, But Going Crazy: He’s the only one who knows, so he’s the one to ask, but obviously you’re scared to do that. I have no end of imagination so can think of a lot of things: anti-depressants kicking in, he filled a prescription for Viagra, had an epiphany or had a breakthrough with a psychiatrist. Or perhaps he just found he inherited big money, won on a lottery ticket, or maybe ended a nasty long drawn-out affair and fell in love with you again. Maybe he hit the manic end of bipolar disorder. Or could he be bi-curious and has finally given it a whirl, and he likes it. Now, don’t you wish you’d just asked him?
