Opinion

Hey there, time traveller!

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: My wife recently bought a vibrator, which I have been finding on the bed when I get home from work. I take this as an insult. Last night, I said, “Well, I guess my work here is done!”

She just shrugged and went back to watching television. A lot of things like that irritate me about her, but especially that vibrator, which must be smokin’ every afternoon.

— Disgusted Husband, Fort Garry

Dear Disgusted: It’s hard to compete in an endurance race when your competitor runs on batteries. And it makes for bad feelings.

After finding evidence of her afternoon activities, you certainly don’t feel like loving her, romancing her, bringing her flowers or being affectionate, loving and sexy — not to mention engaging in intimate, body-to-body lovemaking.

You two need to talk about the distance this is causing, and if there is underlying resentment that makes her so mad she’s deliberately taunting you.

If you can work out the problems, maybe you can use the vibrator together sometimes to get each other to a fever pitch. Then huck it off the bed for the grand finale!

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I’m in love with a short man at work, but he won’t engage with me when I talk to him in a flirtatious way. I even told him, “I love short men because we can dance so close together.” That’s a pretty good hint, isn’t it? Still he’s businesslike with me.

I know he doesn’t have a girlfriend. What’s his problem?

— Confused By Short Guy, Broadway

Dear Confused: Maybe your compatible height has nothing to do with why he’s not paying you any attention. Perhaps you aren’t his personality type and you’re getting on his nerves with comments that imply his shortness is a problem for other women.

Also, madam, you work together! This guy has given you strong hints to back off and you need to respect him. If you don’t, you’ll be flirting with a sexual harassment charge.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I have this casual online girlfriend (one of three) who doesn’t pick up my Facebook messages for up to 24 hours. I know she has seen them when they arrive because I’ve heard her mention it. If she messages me, I give her at least a few words back, as a courtesy. Should I start ignoring her messages for 24 hours as a tit-for-tat?

— Feeling Insulted, North End

Dear Insulted: She probably won’t notice. Instead, tell her you wonder why she doesn’t read your messages and respond with even a word or two when she hears a message. If she tells you she’s too busy, look at getting busier with your other girlfriends who are more attentive.

Bombers look to lock in to post-season chase after dropping game to Argos

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers let a major opportunity slip through their fingers, and they know it.

“F—- yeah. That game was ours,” said defensive end Willie Jefferson on Friday’s 30-28 loss at home to the Toronto Argonauts.

It was — and then they gave it away in the final five minutes.

The Bombers came out firing, jumping out to a 21-7 lead. They had a chance to close out the contest while leading 28-27 with two minutes remaining, but couldn’t do it. Quarterback Dru Brown was sacked by linebacker Adarius Pickett, forcing the Bombers to punt, and the Argos took full advantage.

Orange Shirt Day project fits students to a tee

Maggie Macintosh 5 minute read 6:57 PM CDT

On the eve of Orange Shirt Day, hundreds of black T-shirts will be handed out to teenagers at Elmwood High School — and there wasn’t a mixup in the clothing procurement process.

The student-run business behind the initiative wanted to make a statement about “truth and reconciliation” being a year-round activity, said Daniel Concepcion, a Grade 12 student.

Daniel said given that black is a staple in the wardrobe of teenagers, he hopes these shirts won’t sit on hangers for 364 days of the year.

“Every child matters, every part of the day, every day,” the 17-year-old said.

Bombers let another one slip away and face pivotal issue

Mike O’Shea summed it up best.

“That one doesn’t feel very good.”

Nor should it.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers started out hot Friday night, only to run out of gas down the stretch and allow the visiting Toronto Argonauts to steal a 30-28 victory.

Bison kicker Turner named captain, shows she belongs

Joshua Frey-Sam 7 minute read Saturday, Sep. 26, 2026

Even on nights like this, Maya Turner can appreciate how far she’s come.

Though it feels like yesterday that the Manitoba Bisons kicker arrived on the scene with an unheralded right leg and a point to prove, these days the fifth-year student-athlete is lining up to split the uprights with a veteran boot and the added responsibility of being a team captain.

Getting to this point wasn’t easy, though.

It’s now four years ago that Turner ditched her NCAA Division 1 soccer career at Loyola University in Chicago to kick a different ball on the gridiron and signed with the Bisons, who were one of more than one hundred programs across North America that she sent tape to in hopes of realizing a new dream.
