Jail time, ban from Russell for man who threatened police: Crown
5 minute read 2:00 AM CDTROSSBURN — A Russell man who has repeatedly threatened police, including writing that a Mountie is “going to find himself thrown through the wood chipper,” should serve two years in custody, a sentencing hearing was told Wednesday.
“The level of disrespect and contempt that he shows toward members of the community who are attempting to keep the rest of the community safe … is certainly eye-opening,” Crown attorney Ron Toews told Judge Donovan Dvorak in Rossburn provincial court.
Michael Man, 46, was convicted of uttering threats after a trial and later pleaded guilty to three additional counts.
“These are not spurious or impulsive utterances or acts. These are comments that are made after careful contemplation,” Toews said.

Boy, 11, punches principal during violent tantrum
3 minute read 2:00 AM CDTBRANDON — Police had to be summoned after an 11-year-old student punched the principal of his school, caused “significant” damage by overturning furniture and throwing items and even punched a hole in the wall big enough to get into the adjoining room.
Brandon police took the boy into custody on Tuesday following the violent episode at Earl Oxford School, a kindergarten to Grade 8 building.
The Brandon Police Service received reports of an “escalating and violent” situation involving a student around 1 p.m.
When officers got to the school, they could hear the youth screaming and striking walls and doors inside a room, police said in a news release Wednesday.
